The following are the key vision statements for Ballybeen Men’s Motivation Group.
These statements reflect what the group wishes to achieve by 2020:
The Group / Premises/ Timescale - 2020

Set up our own premises (ideally that we own), building a social asset in the area- owned, managed and run by men of the community and bringing jobs into the area for men

Initially having leased a unit in the Ballyoran Centre on a temporary basis to get started as Men’s Shed aimed at building that camaraderie in the area and breaking down some social barriers that men may have

Bringing a sense of pride back to the estate

Make men in the estate healthier but also linking this to health and well-being of the family too

Drive and develop a sustainable group with its own income stream

Address social needs for men

Establish group as one of the most successful in Northern Ireland addressing men’s health and motivation issues

Take a grass roots approach and provide family based support for the role of men in their social life, in the home and in their working lives

Develop allotment project to give men a focus but also to improve health and well-being through growing own vegetables

Develop a support network for men - be part of a wider UK, Ireland or Worldwide men’s health body and lobby for change in the way in which this is prioritised at government level

Engage in university based research in order to further the message that this type of work needs support

Intergenerational male projects making sure there are role models for young men and that older men start to understand the psyche of a young man as well and vice versa

Deliver community resources on behalf of wider community

Link with the women’s centre on family based projects

Focus on men – making their lives better- address isolation and loneliness
